New concepts of 3D printers are emerging. Recently in 2013 Maker Faire was held in New York, a home-made 3D printing machine attracted everyone's attention. This is a liquid metal jet printer called the Vader printer, which was built by Scott and Zack Vader. The father and son were both makers and created Vader Systems.
Liquid Metal Jet Printing (LMJP) is a process for 3D printing (also known as additive manufacturing ). It can manufacture mechanical parts and electrical connectors in additive form. The LMJP is similar to flat inkjet printing in that each individual droplet is printed by the machine to a designated location. The LMJP's printhead is much like the inkjet head of a flat paper printer that deposits molten metal droplets layer by layer. By varying the size of the orifice, the machine can control the size of the molten metal droplets, which can vary in diameter from 100 microns to 1000 microns.

The current common 3D printing technique for making metal parts is direct laser sintering, which uses high-power lasers to fuse metal powder particles into objects of a specified three-dimensional shape. “But this technique is not ideal for making machine parts because they tend to create a lot of micro-holes inside the part,†says Zack Vader.
Printing metal is the feature of this product
Vader Systems' first molten metal printer, called Mark 1, is still in the prototype stage, the one shown above at the 2013 Maker Faire. It has no printheads, so you can't see the print results. But Zack Vader says their devices will run faster or faster than inkjet printers. At the moment, their focus is on rapid prototyping of aluminum printing equipment for mechanical parts, but Zack Vader believes that other metals such as copper, silver, gold, etc. can easily become printing materials.
