1. The theory of color processing for gravure images

According to the characteristics of commodity packaging products, the theory of color processing of intaglio images is: the true color of the original object should be taken as the basis, and the color of the heart of the people should be processed, and the original color and the physical color and the psychological color should be coordinated. Make perfect copies consistently. Specifically: it is based on the color of the original (magnetic, CD), based on the true color of the original object, and re-created according to the color of people's hearts. On the one hand, it must be fully loyal to the original color of the product and highlight the attributes of the product; on the other hand, it must meet customer requirements, highlight the saturation of color, and emphasize the commercial effect of color.

The method should use the combination of the restoration of the process technology and the re-creation of the color in the heart. The so-called reducibility of arts and crafts technology must first make the entire gravure platemaking process standardized, standardized, and digitalized color management, combined with automatic color management based on software, to make screen color, digital proofing color and gravure proofing color Close to, the reduction accuracy of digital proofing color and gravure ink proofing color should reach 95% ~ 98%. Second, before processing the color, clear the color basis

Before coloring a print, what is the basis of color? If the basis is not clear or the basis is wrong, then the previous achievements will be abandoned. One of the reasons why the plate-making company has caused many internal and external rework is that the color basis in advance is unclear and unclear.

The second is to clarify the printability of the subsequent process. One is to understand what the substrate is? Is it film or paper. If it is a film, it is EOPP film, PE film, pearl film, light film, matt film, or PA nylon film, PET polyester film, heat-sealing film, etc. Such as paper, white paper, or kraft paper. And understand the elasticity, smoothness, whiteness and other characteristics of various paper textures. The second is to understand the characteristics of the ink, is it in the ink, surface ink or sky blue, pink ink? And master the three indicators of various inks, with gray, color deviation and efficiency.

If you do not understand the printing suitability and do not grasp the rule of dot changes, then the scan settings, tone, and color adjustment have no basis, and they must be blind. One of the contradictions between many plate-making companies and printing plants is that the image adjusters do not understand the product's printing suitability and the dot change rule, which often causes small dots to be transferred and the color cannot catch up with gravure proofing Samples and beat the skin.

Third, the steps to deal with the color

When dealing with colors, you must first have a clear concept of "purpose" and the method adopted to achieve this "purpose". In other words, first of all, we must figure out, according to the color of this product packaging bag, what kind of color should be produced? Conversely, what kind of technical processing and re-creation should be taken to produce the expected picture quality to ensure the production of the picture effect that meets the "purpose", we must think and analyze in advance, and be clear in our hearts There are a few. Then follow the rules of color processing, and adjust according to the order of the steps. You must adjust what you see, what you see, and what you think, resulting in blind and ineffective repeated adjustments back and forth. Proceed as follows:

1. Interpret the original. Before the operation, we must first use our own aesthetic vision and concave craft rules to interpret the manuscript, understand the main body of this packaged product, what are the characteristics of the product attributes, and what are the characteristics of the actual colors in the impression, analyze and compare the color of the disc What is the difference between the color of the color manuscript provided by the customer? Analyze whether the four basic standard data of the gray balance, tone level, color restoration, and sharpness in the color of the disc meet the printability requirements of the product, and what are the advantages and disadvantages And conceived in your mind, to what extent is it best to adjust it with reference to the screen color?

The author realized in practice that the manuscript is not interpreted in advance, the depth is not the same as the depth, only the interpretation is deep, the analysis is thorough, the vision is high, that is, the eye is high, and then the correct method is adopted for processing; that is, the hand High, in order to make high-quality products quickly and well, if the eyes are not high, hands can not be raised.

2. Color space mode conversion. At present, there are two color space modes for external electronic image files. One is the GRB mode for color separation generated by GCR; the second is that the RGB mode for color separation generated by GCR has been converted to CMYK mode. Most of them are now this mode. Two modes All are GCR's long-order black-tone adjustment process. Therefore, it should be converted or adjusted to conform to the process data of gravure packaging products with three primary colors and black version as the skeleton.

The first mode only needs to transfer according to the CMYK color separation parameter setting of the main process of gravure three primary colors, which is more convenient. There are four conversion methods in the second mode: automatic calculation method, filling method, adjustment tool selection method, and secondary conversion method. It can be selected according to the simple and complex situation of the original picture.

In the mode conversion, the setting of CMYK color separation parameters is very important, it will directly affect the printing effect, the best setting for gravure is as follows (Figure 1):

3. Image sharpening. The first step of image processing is to sharpen, and adjust the blur caused by scanning, which is called "corrective sharpening", because the adjustment of the sharpening function will affect the change of tone value and color. The author sees that many operators sharpen the image after color correction and tone adjustment, resulting in changes to the corrected color and tone value, especially the small dots in the highlight area become smaller and the dark tone area The dots become larger, the image contrast increases, and you have to recheck and adjust the highlight and dark tone values. Therefore, sharpening should be performed first, and then tone and color adjustments should be made, and dark tone values. Therefore, the sharpening should be performed first, and then the tone and color adjustments should be made, then all the tone and color changes caused by the sharpening will be corrected together. At the same time, after completing the overall tone adjustment and color correction, before storing the image, it is necessary to make some moderate sharpening adjustments, called "target sharpening", which is also necessary. 4. Gray balance adjustment. A key to copying color images is to restore the gray in the original, and use the gray balance data as a guideline to correct the color cast of the original.

(1) Grasp the gravure proofing suitability and electro-engraving curve of the company. The Y, M and C primary color plates obtained through the experiment show neutral gray data after overprinting according to different dot area ratios.

(2) The key point of gray balance adjustment is: need the level of high-gloss white, 25%, 50%, 75% of the white and gray tone of the four parts, gray balance ratio value must be accurate, because the gray tone of these four parts is very Sensitive, with a slight error, it will be discolored.

(3) Practical experience, the gray balance dot value ratio should be slightly warmer, the gray tone is slightly warmer, and the visual sense is comfortable, especially the white porcelain bowls, white porcelain cups and other white utensils in many packaging products, slightly The warmer white-grey tone will be better.

(4) In some intaglio plate-making companies, the author adopts the adaptability conditions such as inside printing, surface printing ink, OPP film, etc., generally:

5. Tone level adjustment. Gradation gradation processing of gravure images. First, in theory, the printed image should have the same density range as the original. (1) Adjust the level of the highlight part. If the original highlight has a large area and a rich layered texture, the first is to adjust the three primary colors of extreme highlights to 0% as the brightest part of the image; the second is to adjust the highlight whites that require gradation and set the minimum dot value of the three primary color version Adjust to the smallest dot value that can be transferred from printing, and adjust to the proportion of neutral white dot value, also called the setting of basic white. According to the general gravure suitability, the adjustment setting is C6%, M5%, Y5%, C7%, M6%, Y6% or C8%, M7%, Y7%, etc.

(2) Adjust the level of the dark tone part. If the main part of the original is processed in backlight or dark, the adjustment method: First, take the neutral black of the darkened part of the image at the sampling point, without neutral black, take the deepest part, adjust the setting C90% ~ 93%, M86% ~ 89 %, Y86 ~ 89%, K70% ± 5%, the sum of the four colors is about 330%; the second is to use the black version to pull the darkest part and the second deepest part of the dark tone. Use the gradation curve to adjust the black version of the deepest part to 75%, and the local blackest part to 80%, and reduce the sub-deep middle level to about 60% to enrich the dark tone level.

(3) Adjust the level of the mid-adjustment part. The midtone is the focus of the image. Therefore, it is important to control the midpoint (M point), because the color density of the midtone is very undulating, and it should be adjusted to the best visual brightness. Generally, the density of the seventh ladder (point M) of the Kodak reflection ladder is 0.78, and the dot value is set to: C50%, M45%, Y45%, K5%. The density of the original manuscript is light and should be deepened. , The color density is deep, it should be lightened, and they are all close to the best visual brightness.

When using the cuyve curve tool of photoshop software to adjust the tone level, two points should be noted: (1) It is clear that the level curve acts on the adjustment of the tone level, the tone level should be adjusted first, and then the color adjustment; (2) less use and no level The curve tool adjusts the color, because the change of the gradation curve will affect the change of the gray system and the color system. If you want to use it, you must check out the color to be adjusted with the lasso tool to adjust it, or lock the local level segment for a small amount of adjustment.

6. Color processing. Color processing is the key to the success or failure of gravure color image reproduction. Since the current screen color and gravure proofing color cannot be "what you see is what you get", there is a big gap in some color gamuts, such as cyan and blue systems. Therefore, when processing color, the screen color cannot be used as the basis. The color of the EOPP film should be based on the ink of different characteristics such as the ink used in gravure printing, surface printing ink, or sky blue, pink ink, etc. Refer to the color spectrum printed by our company, the screen color is used as a reference, and the color is mainly configured by the dot value data. It should be summed up bit by bit in production practice, accumulate experience, find out which color gamut has the error law, and then compensate when adjusting color.

Standards for color processing: (1) first master the principle of true color, that is, it is accurate compared with the actual color; (2) do everything possible to make the color proofed digital proofing color catch up with the color of the customer's color draft, and gravure after electronic engraving The ink proofing color should catch up with the digital proofing color. The accuracy of the color reproduction of the two reaches 95% ~ 98%, and some color gamuts are even better than the color draft; (3) Try to meet the color requirements of people's hearts or customers' color requirements. Do not only be loyal to the original color of the product, but also meet the color requirements of people's hearts, to achieve the commercial effect of color.

Two points should be paid attention to when using the color correction tool of Photoshop to adjust the color: (1) The primary colors Y, M, C should be adjusted first, and then the secondary colors R, G, B should be adjusted; (2) Do not use the color correction tools to adjust Compound color, because compound color belongs to the gray system, if the color correction tool is used to adjust the compound color, the total amount of color correction is large, the color correction effect is small, and excessive color correction will seriously affect the change of the color system. If you want to use it, you need to check out the compound color you want to adjust separately with the lasso tool.

7. Artistic treatment. Artistic re-creation processing and fine processing are necessary for making high-quality gravure products. If there is no better than the original, there is no artistic processing and fine processing that meets people's hearts and colors, and it cannot cause emotional resonance between buyers and product manufacturers. It's not good platemaking quality. Therefore, in order to better express the characteristics of the colors of various commodities, on the one hand, according to people's subjective vision, the colors are dissolved into the operator's adjustment design, and the important colors of the picture are artistically processed, that is, moderately exaggerated Rendering, highlighting the psychological effect of color, so that it conforms to the real visual effect perceived by human eyes; the second aspect is not simply to adjust the color saturation, but to sublimate to correctly handle the normal proportional relationship of color according to the color configuration principle. The relationship between light and dark, cold and warm, highlights the three-dimensional sense of the physical form, sense of space, lightness; three aspects to carefully repair the original particles, roads, dirty spots, unevenness, etc., to achieve clean, smooth, delicate, refreshing and pleasant products The effect makes people look at the beautiful real pictures and induces the desire to buy, which requires the operator to have a high judgment vision and an understanding of objective physical colors, as well as master the color configuration rules.

4. Methods and methods of color processing

The plate making and printing process of gravure product color packaging products is, in the final analysis, the process of color reproduction, and the most fundamental of these is whether the image color processing technology of the plate making company is excellent, whether it can bring out customer satisfaction, and can exceed customer expectations. Image color. Because the customer first looks at whether the color of the image is made well, whether it is bright or not, compared with the color manuscript, the color is not like it, and it does not conform to the color that he wants in his mind to comment on the quality of the plate making. At the same time, in the art of packaging, there are often saying that "look at the color from a distance, look at the flower first, look at the color first, then look at the flower, seven-point color and three-point flower", which fully shows how important it is to handle the color of the packaged product. Therefore, we should proceed from the practical commercial point of view, the point of view of the theoretical limit of the art of gravure art and the point of view of meeting the color requirements of people's hearts, combined with the color characteristics of commodity packaging products, according to the color configuration principle, according to the law of gravure art color processing. Overcoming the fact that many operators just look at the colors of the screen at random, blindly toning, and sometimes changing the lemon to orange, causing repeated work back and forth. Therefore, it is important to master the 10 methods and methods of color processing.

1. Treatment of color saturation. How to match the saturation is an important part of color processing, because customers require their products to be saturated and bright, even to an excessive degree. In fact, when processing, you can compress various colors by the same amount or lose one part of the color, strengthen the other part of the color, and sometimes balance the saturation of all colors. You should choose the best according to the original content and the main color, and master The essentials are as follows:

Various solid color blocks such as red, green, blue and other solid words and logos and other basic basic colors that do not require layers are sufficient. The tone value range of the light-tone dots in the B tone area is 10% to 35%. Highlights and bright areas are one of the key areas for color processing.

The color quantity of the above two parts is insufficient due to three reasons, one is due to the small dot transferability of the gravure process; the second is due to the influence of the light level and the amount of color retention during scanning; the third is from outside As the designer only cares about increasing the contrast of highlights, the light tones in highlights and high-profile areas are seriously insufficient, and the light tones in this area are the center of attention. This is often not noticed by the operator, causing many products to be light. The hue is dull and unsaturated, and even lost. Therefore, to consciously deepen the basic colors of light tones in this area, it should be deepened by about 5% based on the amount of color required by the hue. For example, for light pink flowers, the M color amount needs to be 10%, and it should be deepened to 15 %, Thereby making the pale pink plump. A key technical point here is to keep the lightest basic colors away from extreme highlights or white paper. Such as light yellow, pink, light cyan, light green and other basic colors for deepening treatment, so that it can show the fullness of light tones. It also makes highlights stand out, which is one of the technical secrets of making gravure products fine.

2. Treatment of color brightness. Commodity packaging products, which require bright and bright color, the processing methods:

â‘  Make basic colors that are bright, medium and deep. Only the basic colors can make the colors bright and bright. The principle is that the basic colors should be sufficient but not light. If the basic color is insufficient, the color will be dull.

â‘¡ To adjust the highlight to bright colors, try to use primary colors or intermediate colors to make full use of the purity of the three primary colors ink to express the brightness of the color, do not use or less use the opposite color. In terms of pigment mixing theory, the darker the pigment, the darker the color will be if the opposite color is added to the bright colors.

3. Processing of hue accuracy. Commodity packaging products, first of all, emphasize the accuracy of the original color, and make the color of the screen truly reflect the appearance and characteristics of the real object. If the color of the objective object is inaccurate, and the tomato color is made orange, then the copy fails. The second is to particularly emphasize the accuracy of the copy color and the color of the customer's color draft. Now the customer requirements are quite "harsh", and the color of each part must be consistent with the color of the color draft. Therefore, the following points should be mastered:

In some cases, the color of the customer's color manuscript will prevail, and the screen color will be used to make a purposeful, directional and accurate color adjustment based on the color of the screen, so that you can take a lot of detours and avoid readjusting and reprinting the digital samples. Some have to retune and replay 6 to 7 times or even 10 times.

Color matching method using dot value data: First, the screen dot value data of the screen color is compared with the shade of the color manuscript; and the second is to refer to the dot value data on the gravure sample chromatogram of various ink characteristics printed by the company. Adjust. Be meticulous, fine art, and meticulously catch up with the color manuscript, to ensure that the accuracy of the digital proof drawing color and the client color manuscript drawing color reaches 95% ~ 98%, so that it can be used effectively.

(4) Accurately handle the hue of the bright and dark surfaces of the object. The hue of the bright and dark surface of the object is affected by the color of the light source. It is a combination of the color of the light source and the inherent color. It is generally the hue and chromaticity of the color of the light source. The hue of the dark tone surface of the object is a mixture of the inherent color and the ambient hue. The color always has the tendency of complementary color of the light source color.
