Talking about the Precautions in the Gravure Ink Gravure Printing Process

Pearlescent ink can show pearl or metal-like luster on different substrates (paper, plastic, etc.), improving the grade of packaging products. This feature makes pearl ink printing a major highlight in packaging and decoration printing. People's youth.

Pearlescent inks are generally formulated with pearlescent pigments and binders. The pearlescent pigments are in the form of powders. In order to ensure uniform dispersion, they must be fully wetted with the corresponding system solvent before blending. In the pearlescent ink gravure printing process, we usually use butyl ester to soak the pearlescent pigments for more than 3 hours, then add the corresponding binder and gently stir. It cannot be stirred with a high-speed ink mixer because the mica in the pearlescent pigment is in a sheet-like structure and is relatively brittle, and is easily destroyed and loses its pearlescent effect.

Pearlescent ink in the pearlescent pigment particle size, the commonly used titanium pearlescent mica pigment size 25/m, thickness 0.25-0.60 L/m, prone to precipitation, pearl ink is best to use immediately. The formulated pearlescent ink should be shading, sealed, and stored for no more than 5 days. When printing on the machine, it should be slow and stirring to ensure the full flow of pearlescent pigments. In the printing process, proper ink viscosity can ensure the smooth transfer of pearlescent pigments and the glossiness of prints. However, due to the constant volatilization of the solvent in the ink, the viscosity of the ink will be higher and higher, and an appropriate amount of butyl ester should be added for adjustment.

The printing of pearlescent inks on the surface of the optically smooth substrates provides a better pearlescent effect. In paper-based substrates, glass cardboard, coated paper, and white-white cardboard are the best. Due to the large particle size of the pearlescent pigments, the pearl pigment particles contained in the cell of the plate cylinder are limited, and it is difficult to display fine dots. Therefore, the pearlescent ink is not suitable for the printing of halftone products, and is mostly used for printing on the field version. . In the field printing, in order to ensure the smooth transfer and uniform coating of large-particle pearlescent pigments, the gravure depth of the gravure plate cylinder is more than 25μm, and the number of plate printing lines is more than 75 lines/inch. Moreover, the printing pressure should be increased appropriately. The thicker the ink layer of the pearl ink transferred to the substrate, the more uniform the distribution, the more pronounced the pearlescent effect.

In order to better display the pearlescent effect of the product, the product after pearlescent ink printing is treated. This will not only protect the pearl ink layer, but also improve the gloss of the product. It should be noted that when polishing, it is necessary to select a good varnish. The commonly used varnish is generally Uv varnish and water varnish. In practical production, it can be selected according to product requirements, process, and equipment. The UV varnish coating is thick and has high brightness. It needs UV curing after coating, and the cured product often has an odor. It needs to be left for a while to be removed. The waterborne varnish coating is thin and has a slightly lower brightness and does not require a special drying device, which can be printed as a final color in the process.

Through the process of calendering, embossing, embossing, etc., the pearlescent ink printed products are often able to obtain special visual effects, adding more charm to pearlescent ink prints. At present, pearlescent ink printing is not only limited to gravure printing, but also applicable to offset printing, embossing, flexographic printing, screen printing and other printing methods. Substrates also extend from traditional paper and plastics to fabrics, rubber, ceramics, car covers and more. The range of pearlescent pigments has expanded to include silver, gold, rainbow, and metallic colors. More and more products are being printed with pearlescent ink, and the grades are getting higher and higher.
